Modified Leaf of a Plant
These are two leaves from a forest that was harvested and is now thick with new growth. The leaves are so large because they are fighting for sunlight among the rest of the growth which is why they are considered modified plant leaves.
Spore
This is a puffball fungi that when stepped on or touched releases a smoke-like puff of spore out its top.
Introduced Species
In my father's hand is a branch of an autumn olive plant. The plant is not originally from the United States and is considered an invasive introduced species.
Homeostasis
Homeostasis is defined as the property of a system that regulates its internal environments and tends to maintain a stable, constant condition of properties such as temperature or pH. All endothermic animals exhibit homeostasis, like this lemur.
Anther and Filament
Shown in this picture are the anther and filament of a flower. The anther being the flexible purple area and the filament being the white stem.
Parasite
At the top of the alligators mouth there is a black object seen in between his teeth and that is a leech.
